THE COFFEE
This unique blend is custom roasted in Upstate New York, not far from the "Grand Canal." Coarsely ground and prepared with pure water, it produces a rich aromatic brew to be savored and appreciated by discerning coffee lovers.
THE LEGEND
While most of the tonnage on the Erie Canal consisted of raw materials headed eastward, one of the most precious cargos was coffee -- brought in through the Port of New York -- heading west to canal-side communities. As one line boat loaded with coffee beans approached Buffalo, a sudden storm tossed the vessel mercilessly for almost a day. When calm returned, the ruptured burlap sacks of beans were mixed in the hold. The entrepreneurial captain scooped up the "blend," coarsely ground the beans, and brewed the first cup of the now famous Canal Coffee Co.'s(TM) "Hoggie's Choice." And it's said that he shared this coffee with his team of mules -- making them the fastest on the Canal.
